Yorkville The Ring is a 420,000 sqm mixed-use development that includes a 170,000 sqm shopping mall, a 110,000 sqm super grade A office building, and a 70,000 sqm, six-story indoor botanical garden. It is a regional landmark in Chongqing, China, offering a unique blend of commercial and natural elements. The shopping mall incorporates an all-new intelligent commercial system that seamlessly integrates people, nature, and technology.
The design of Yorkville The Ring stands out with its innovative modular facade. The parametric modeling approach allows for a dynamic and abstract representation of the poetic scenery of "wind," "woods," and "clouds." The curvatures of the ceramic tiles mimic the gentle breeze, while the texture of aluminum panels subtly references elements from the surrounding mountains. LED lighting further enhances the facade, adding glamour and magnificence to the overall design.
The realization of Yorkville The Ring involved advanced technologies and sustainable practices. The project utilized natural ventilation and shading CFD technology to optimize air distribution and temperature control in the botanical garden. Illuminance analysis technology was employed to determine the ideal plant distribution and lighting conditions. The design also incorporated BIM technology across all disciplines.
Yorkville The Ring is set to become a new landmark in Chongqing, China. Its integration of urban living with the beauty of nature creates a unique "urban + nature" hybrid community. The retail circulation seamlessly blends with the indoor botanical garden, offering customers a nature-infused shopping experience. The 42-meter-tall dome crowns the botanical garden, providing shelter and creating a visually stunning space. The design also prioritizes sightlines and spatial planning to extend the botanical garden's landscape beyond its physical boundaries.
Yorkville The Ring is expected to be completed in December 2020. The project has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that showcase technical and creative skills while contributing to quality of life improvements.
